FZS Marching Band Website is LIVE
The FZS Marching Band Website is LIVE. It’s the reason I haven’t posted in a while. I have been working on a couple of other sites for some people. One of them being my son’s marching band website: fzsband.com. It has been a long time coming. We have a great bunch of parents (past and present) that have supported the marching band. Our previous marching band website was setup by a previous band parent as a wiki. In hopes to drive more parents to use the site we looked into creating a new website.
After a few discussions and gavel throwings (just kidding) it was decided I would put together a new site. I decided to use WordPress mainly because it fit the bill. It is fairly easy to set up. It is fairly easy to maintain. And most importantly, if there is anything you don’t know how to do in WordPress there are thousands of resources available.
For the most part, I think the new site looks decent. I’m not the most creative person in the world so I left that in the hands of the creators of the Weaver II theme. Great theme and very customizable and it displays well on a mobile device. I did take the time to create a plugin specifically for the band. It is an addon to my roster plugin (BCD Roster). It adds some specific band information to the roster member post. I was intending it to be a way for the band’s Buzz Book to be available online, but I have been having trouble getting the printing to work right. Cross browser compatibility is killing me. On one browser I can get the pagination to work, but on another it looks horrid.
The BCD Roster plugin still comes in handy to maintain the band’s members. Makes it real easy to have a page that simply lists the band members.
Now that the site is live everyone can start giving some real feedback. This is when the fun begins! Since I’m not very creative it’s nice to get the feedback of the populace and hear what they need or want.
Have a look. Let me know what you think.
